"My name is Molly Caffrey, and I work for the Federal Government. I deal in worst-case scenarios, the unthinkable. On September 16th, 2005, the unthinkable happened. An extraterrestrial object appeared off the bow of a naval freighter. The entire crew was exposed to a high frequency signal. Some died instantly. Others began to change. They are now stronger, more resilient. They dream of alien landscapes. And they are driven by the impulse to infect others. Several of the crewmen are now loose in the United States. They will strike anytime, anyplace, anyone. Their goal: to turn us into them. But I have a plan to stop them. That plan is called "Threshold"."

Threshold was a short-lived American science fiction television series that aired on CBS from September, 2005 to February, 2006, airing only thirteen episodes in total. The series was created by Bragi F. Schut and Brannon Braga and was produced by Braga Productions for CBS. The series originally aired on Friday evenings, but the network moved it to Tuesday nights in the hopes of getting better ratings; a tactic that failed dramatically as the series experienced a sharp ratings drop and was soon cancelled, having aired only nine of the thirteen produced episodes. The remaining episodes were aired on Sky1 in the UK and the entire series was eventually re-broadcast on SyFy on Friday evenings following Battlestar Galactica. The premise of the series centered around the Blackwood Institute, a high-level government crisis management consultant firm whose function was to create contingency plans for use in emergencies ranging from natural disasters to nuclear war. Their research led them towards investigating a First Contact scenario involving an alien species when they discovered a distressed Naval vessel in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
