"Substance X" is the fifth episode of season two of the science fiction anthology series Tales of Tomorrow. It first aired on the ABC network on Friday, October 3rd, 1952. In this episode, a female representative from a food conglomerate returns to her home town to look into the unique dietery restrictions of the community. She discovers that a scientist has created a food substitute called "Substance X", which has been distributed to everyone in the town. Anyone who consumes "Substance X" is unable to eat normal food from that moment onward.
