Reaver

"I'ma eat yo face!"

Reavers may refer to several different groups of individuals. On the TV series Firefly and its feature film spin-off, Serenity, Reavers were a tribe of humans who were driven into a savage cannibalistic state as an unexpected side-effect of being exposed to the chemical G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate on the colony world of Miranda. Reavers became the most feared entities in the 'Verse and even the most stalwart of individuals knew better than to broach company with them. Their actions and appetites represented the most sadistic and gruesome traits a body can possess. As once described by Zoe Washburne:

If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins into their clothing. And, if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order.

As madness tends to remove inhibition, Reavers have come to be very effective in the battlefield. They were prone to close-quartered combat techniques, employing hand-held bladed weapons over firearms, and had little regard for their own safety, as pain was simply a natural state of their existence at that point. Reavers often slew their prey immediately, but were also known to physically and psychologically torture captives as well. If such a captive managed to somehow survive such an experience, they were usually driven insane, often becoming Reavers themselves.

Another group who called themselves Reavers were characters featured in comic book titles published by Marvel Comics. These were a team of cyborg mercenaries put together by Donald Pierce for the purpose of combatting the mutant superhero team known as the X-Men. Three of the original Reavers were Wade Cole, Murray Reese, and Angelo Macon, who were once Hellfire Club guards who suffered severe injuries at the hands (or claws) of Wolverine. They were joined by several more cyborgs including Skullbuster, Pretty Boy and Lady Deathstrike. They were based in the Australian Outback and fought up against the X-Men during a time when the world had believed they were dead.
