Biography[]

Comics[]

John Custer was an American soldier from Texas. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When he returned to the United States, he was verbally accosted by a group of hippies, one of whom, Christina L'Angelle, spit in his face. Naturally, the two ended up married to one another. They had a son named Jesse. [1]

TV series[]

John Custer was a preacher who operated out of Annville, Texas in the 1980s. He owned a patch of land on which he built the All Saints Congregational church. John Custer had a young son, Jesse Custer. For a brief period of time, John took in an orphan girl named Tulip O'Hare. He eventually handed Tulip over to child services.

John Custer visited Odin Quincannon shortly after discovering that Odin's entire family had been killed in a ski-lift accident in Colorado. John tried to keep him calm with words of spiritual encouragement, but Quincannon denounced God in front of him. [2]

John Custer was shot and killed in front of the eyes of his own son. Before the gun went off, he told his son not to cry. "Custer's don't cry", he repeated, and then the gun went off. [3][4]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • John Custer was a strict disciplinarian. He would often whip 10-year-old Jesse Custer across the back for disobedience. [5]
  • In the comics, John Custer was a U.S. marine, not a preacher.
