Howard Keel was an American actor and singer born in Gillespie, Illinois on April 13th, 1919. He starred in many westerns and film musicals of the 1950s. His only contribution to the science fiction genre was in 1962 when he played the role of protagonist Bill Masen in the film adaptation of John Wyndham's The Day of the Triffids. Keel passed away from colon cancer in Palm Desert, California on November 7th, 2004.
