Henry "Pop" Hunter is a fictional businessman and a minor character featured in the Netflix television series Marvel's Luke Cage. Played by actor Frankie Faison, he first appeared in the pilot episode of the series, "Moment of Truth".

Biography[]

Henry Hunter grew up in Harlem, New York City. As a youth, he was a street tough who ran around with the likes of Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes. As an older man, he opened up Pop's Barber Shop, which he declared as "Switzerland" - a neutral zone between the frequent gang wars that plagued the neighborhood. Pop hired Luke Cage to sweep up floors in his establishment.

Pop was shot and killed by accident after being caught in the crossfire when one of Cornell Stokes' more trigger-happy lieutenants, Tone, opened fire on the barber shop in an attempt to kill Wilfredo "Chico" Diaz.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The character of Henry Hunter was created by showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker based on concepts originally developed by Archie Goodwin, George Tuska, Roy Thomas and John Romita.
  • Pop kept an empty coffee can as a "Swear jar" in his shop. Whenever somebody used profanity or took the Lord's name in vain, he made them put money into the jar. Presumably the money was put to a good cause.
