Biography[]
Gil Mason was the deputy police commissioner of Gotham City, serving under James Gordon. What few knew however, was that he was also an accomplice of Two-Face. With Two-Face providing him valuable information, Gil spear-headed a task force aimed at bringing down organized crime, which effectively did away with many of Two-Face's rivals as well, such as Rupert Thorne.
Gil Mason drummed up fake evidence implicating Commissioner Gordon in the acceptance of cash bribes from Rupert Thorne and had him arrested. Still playing up the role of being a loyal Gotham City official, Mason also hosted a special event aimed at getting Commissioner Gordon released on bail. Mason staged a fake assassination attempt on his life at the event in order to earn sympathy from the masses.
Commissioner Gordon's daughter, Barbara, was the first to make the connection between Gil and Two-Face when she found him speaking to one of Two-Face's cronies, Mad Dog, in his home. Dick Grayson, aka Robin, also began to suspect Mason of being less than honest when he reviewed surveillance footage of the assassination attempt and saw Mason in slow-motion ducking behind the podium before the gunmen even made their presence known.
