Notes & Trivia[]

  • Ponda Baba was not identified by name until 1989 when West End Games generated the name for their roleplaying game module. In the original shooting script for Star Wars, he was identified only as a multi-eyed alien. This description was also used in Alan Dean Foster's novelization of Star Wars. Ironically, there is a subspecies of Aqualish who have two sets of eyes. They are called the Ualaq. Ponda Baba however is a member of the Quara species.
  • An action figure of Ponda Baba was first created by Kenner for their original Star Wars line. The action figure, named Walrus Man, had different attire than Ponda Baba, wearing only a red turtleneck sweater and no pants. Along with three other action figures, the Walrus Man toy was included in the Star Wars Cantina play set.
  • Ponda Baba and Doctor Evazan appeared in a sketch on Robot Chicken. The character was voiced by series creator Seth Green.
  • Another version of Ponda Baba appeared in the animated spoof Family Guy: Blue Harvest. In this film, Ponda is not a surly pirate, but rather a friendly architectural engineer named Scott who really likes Luke Skywalker's hair.
