E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is an American science fiction film of the family and adventure subgenres. It was directed by Steven Spielberg and writen by Melissa Mathison. It was produced by Universal Pictures and Spielberg's production company, Amblin Entertainment, and released theatrically in the United States on June 11th, 1982. The film stars Henry Thomas, Peter Coyote, Dee Wallace, Robert MacNaughton, Drew Barrymore, K.C. Martel, Sean Frye and C. Thomas Howell.

Production & Release Edit

  • E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was re-released to theaters in 1985 boasting the tagline, "The story that touched the world".
  • The 20th Anniversary Edition of the film was re-released to theaters with new footage on March 16th, 2002.
  • E.T. was released on the same date as Spielberg's Jurassic Park albeit eleven years apart.

  • Elliot is seen playing with Greedo and Hammerhead action figures, amongst others. These were produced by Kenner and are the licensed properties of George Lucas' Star Wars franchise. Lucas and Spielberg are close friends and the two have frequently included little easter eggs of their respective properties in each other's films.
