"The Day of the Doctor", also known as the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special is a special television movie that takes place in between seasons seven and eight of the 2005 Doctor Who revival series. The episode was directed by Nick Hurran and written by Steven Moffat. It had a special running time of 75 min. and premiered in global simulcast on BBC One in the United Kingdom and BBC America in the United States on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 at 2:30 pm. As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration, "The Day of the Doctor" stars Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and David Tennant reprising his role as the Tenth Doctor. Supporting cast members include John Hurt as the War Doctor, Billie Piper as "Bad Wolf" and Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart. It also gives audiences the first glimpse of the upcoming Twelfth Doctor, who will be played by actor Peter Capaldi in series eight. Additionally, the film features cameo appearances (via archival footage) of all previous incarnations of the Doctor. Former Doctor portrayer Tom Baker, best known for his role as the Fourth Doctor, makes a special cameo appearance as a curator at the end of the episode.
