Mirror Universe[]
In the Mirror Universe, Phlox served aboard the ISS Enterprise - a warship for the Terran Empire. He was the Chief Medical Officer under the command of Captain Maximilian Forrest. When Forrest's First Officer, Commander Jonathan Archer, mutinied against the Captain, thus taking command of the ship himself, Phlox began taking all of his orders from Archer. In addition to his duties in Sick Bay, Phlox had a deep interest in researching how certain procedures would affect living samples and frequently conducted grotesque experiments on animals in his laboratory. He also took great delight in examining the conditions of those who were forced to suffer in Major Malcolm Reed's Agony Chamber. During the Terran Empire's war against the Tellarites, the crew managed to capture a Tholian and contained it on the Enterprise. Phlox interrogated the creature for information, but when it refused, he adjusted the atmospheric conditions in the chamber, causing the Tholian massive amounts of pain. Ultimately, Phlox terminated the creature's life. When the Tholians retaliated against the Enterprise, Phlox and several others were forced to abandon ship before their combined efforts destroyed the starship. Phlox jettisoned himself in an escape pod and was picked up by Captain Archer and beamed aboard a starship from a parallel universe, the USS Defiant NCC-1764. [1][2]
