The Day of the Triffids was a science fiction novel written in 1951 by author John Wyndham. The book been adapted into a 1962 feature film, Day of the Triffids, a 1981 six-part British mini-series, The Day of the Triffids and a 2009 two-part mini-series, The Day of the Triffids. The plot of the story centers around a meteor shower that passes through Earth's atmosphere rendering the majority of the world's population permanently blind. Those fortunate enough to keep their sight must struggle to survive in a world gripped in panic and turmoil. While trying to eke out a new life for themselves, the survivors must also contend with a new and even deadlier threat - the carnivours plants known as Triffids.
