Day of the Triffids was a television mini-series that aired on BBC1 in the United Kingdom and Australia from September 10th to September 15th, 1981. The series was based on the original novel The Day of the Triffids by sci-fi writer John Wyndham. Previously, a film version of The Day of the Triffids was produced in 1962 directed by Steve Sekely. The series premiered simultaneously in the United Kingdom and in Australia on ABC Television (not to be confused with the American Broadcasting Company). In 2009, the BBC began production of a new television version of The Day of the Triffids. The mini-series was released on DVD in the UK on April 4th, 2005 and in Australia on June 6th, 2005. A US DVD (through BBC Home Video) was released on October 1st, 2007.

The series was repeated on BBC1 (March 7th, 1984 - April 11th, 1984), Satellite channel UK Gold screened the series in (2004/2005) and the Sci-Fi Channel (UK) in 2006. BBC4 have also screened the series in 2006 and 2009.
