A councillor, or counselor, is one who specializes in a particular field of study and offers advice to an authoritative or consulting body, usually in the form of a council. They usually carry the title Councilman or Councilwoman. The primary function of a councillor is to provide an overview of current and proposed policy and legislation and to offer voting power to local government.
On the 1974 television series Planet of the Apes, the ruling ape body of Central City, California, was presided over by a council. The head of the body was Councillor Zaius.
