C.G.B. Spender is a fictional government agent featured in The X-Files multimedia franchise. Played by actor William B. Davis, he was introduced in the pilot episode of the series and made recurring appearances throughout all nine seasons of the show. By and large, the character was referred to by the nicknames Cigarette Smoking Man and Cancer Man, and even the name C.G.B. Spender may in fact be an alias. William B. Davis also played the character in the 1998 feature film, The X-Files: Fight the Future.
