A bowcaster is a fictional weapon featured in the Star Wars multimedia franchise. It first appeared in the original 1977 film Star Wars, later identified by its full title, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
A bowcaster is similar to a crossbow in terms of form, but it fires laser energy bolts and has three firing chambers capable of shooting tight controlled bolts of energy, or in some cases cluster bursts.
A bowcaster is the preferred weapon of choice of the Wookiee freedom fighter Chewbacca. Chewbacca even let his partner, Han Solo, use the weapon once, and Han commented about how much he liked it. During the Clone Wars, the bounty hunter known as Embo also used a bowcaster.
