Inhumans 1x02 003

Auran of the Inhumans heals herself.

Accelerated healing is the ability of a person to recover from injuries and illness at a rate far in excess than that of normal maximum human potential. It is sometimes referred to as a Healing factor. In speculative fiction, accelerated healing is possessed by people who are born with certain genetic anomalies (ie mutants), suffer from a biological mutation as a result of exposure to a foreign source (ie Gamma radiation), or are infused with artificial enhancements such as nanotechnology that enables them to heal from injuries.

In comic book fiction, one of the most notable examples of a character with accelerated healing is the Marvel Comics superhero Wolverine. Wolverine's healing factor stems from the fact that he is a mutant. In fact, it is this power that enabled him to survive having his skeleton bonded with the metal Adamantium, which has made him one of the most difficult characters in the Marvel Universe to kill. In his early career, Wolverine's ability to heal varied depending upon the severity of the injury. Minor scrapes and cuts would heal almost instantly, while more severe wounds such as gunshots could take several days up to a few weeks to heal. In one instance, Wolverine was impaled by the Silver Samurai's sword and it took him nearly a month to fully recover. [1] In more current stories, Wolverine's healing factor has grown to an exorbitant degree and he can heal from almost any injury instantaneously. However, a swift kick to the yams can still leave him doubled over in agony as evidenced by a fight he once had with the Punisher. [can we get a frakkin' citation here?!]

On the NBC television series Heroes, the character of Claire Bennet possessed this ability. She had her friend Zach videotape her pitching herself from a high tower, dislocating her shoulder as she landed. She easily popped it back into place. Shortly thereafter, Claire was tackled by a high school football player by accident. The impact was so jarring that it actually twisted her head around, but she was able to quickly snap it back into place. Later, she rushed blindly into a raging fire on a derailed train car to save an unconscious worker. She healed from any burn injuries instantaneously. [2]
