Æon Flux was an animated television serial that premiered as an experimental program in 1991 on MTV's Liquid Television showcase. Created by Korean animator Peter Chung, the first season of the series was broadcast as six two-minute micro-serials. In 1992, a second string of five episodes were produced followed by ten half-hour episodes that aired from August to November that same year. The series proved popular enough that it spawned a four-issue Æon Flux comic book mini-series by Dark Horse Comics, which ran from October of 2005 to January of 2006. A live-action motion picture, loosely based on the series was released theatrically in 2005 and starred Charlize Theron in the titular role of Æon. All episodes of the television series have been collected in VHS format in a series of three video tapes collectively titled Æon Flux, Mission Infinite and Operative Terminus. The series has also been included in the Æon Flux: The Complete Animated Collection available on DVD and Blu-ray.
